Guided by universal design and inclusivity, the new Easterseals Crossroads will boldly lead the challenge to creating spaces where accessibility is a given expectation, not a luxury. We will embrace technology to exist in all aspects of our inspiring spaces where children and adults can learn, maximize independence, connect with others and discover possibilities.
The new facility will fully integrate collaboration among staff, programs, volunteers and partners to make meaningful plans of service for those we serve.
“Easterseals Crossroads is a place of progress. Within these walls children and adults are moving forward and achieving new milestones each day. We are able to bring their possibilities to fruition.” – Dawn Neal, Campaign Chair, Eli Lilly and Company, retired
Current Challenges
Our current building at 4740 Kingsway Drive, Indianapolis, was reconfigured in 1990 to meet the needs of those we served. Over 30 years have passed, and it is long overdue to reassess our current existence and create spaces that will welcome the next and future generations of individuals with disabilities and their families.
Our facility serves as a hub for our program participants, as well as our staff and our community. We provide necessary services for those who need them. It has been proven that children and adults thrive through connection, socialization, peer-to-peer support and interaction. Our facility provides opportunities for that and more.
Our program participants benefit in so many ways by coming to us for therapy, appointments, classes, training, groups and interaction. We are continually reminded that people thrive when they have an appointment to attend, a therapy session in which to participate or a group class from which to benefit. We are centrally located and we are on the bus line.
We are a vital part of our community, but we owe it to our community to be even better. We need to be more inclusive, more technology-forward, more collaborative, more integrated and more welcoming. We need our facility to be better suited to the needs put forth by our program participants.
Funding Needs
The people we serve need spaces that are designed for skill acquisition, independence, growth, conversation and socialization. Bigger therapy rooms and open spaces will prepare our agency for the future of service that is provided by teams of collaborating specialists and professionals.
Assistive technology needs to be forward facing and incorporated more fully into all areas of service to meet the needs of people with disabilities, veterans and our aging population. As the state’s top provider of assistive technology services, it is critical that we stay ahead of the technology curve to serve people in the most comprehensive way possible.
Using technology to develop skills and foster creativity allows the possibility to learn, grow and prepare for independence as well as future employment. A makerspace and podcast studio will complement current services by encouraging people with disabilities to maximize their thoughts, ideas and creative channels.
A gaming studio will be a powerful source of connection and friendship for our entire community. When people game together, they are collaborating and they are networking. When gaming is accessible to all people with and without disabilities, it represents inclusion and equity in such a unique way.
Your opportunity to be part of the future Easterseals Crossroads will make a huge impact and a meaningful commitment to our community’s future as we navigate what inclusion, accessibility and equity can truly mean to all of us.
